The Wiz is a 1974 musical reimagining of L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz that premiered at the Morris A. Mechanic Theatre in Baltimore on October 21, 1974 before transferring to Broadway in January 1975. The original Broadway production won seven Tony Awards including Best Musical and ran for over 1,600 performances; it spawned a 1978 film adaptation and has since had multiple revivals and national tours, including a 2024 Broadway revival and planned North American touring dates.
